Day 1 Time Off- Community?

“What does it mean to live in community?” is 12 days journal #130

Community has a lot of meanings for me, some grand, huge undertakings which take dedication, years of work and vision. And sometimes it is simply a friend who sees a need; an angel who comes and finds a sad friend and lovingly takes her to float on a raft in a lake on a stinkin hot day. Thank you Kim, I love you.

  1. Community to me means finding people who want to share their lives and have a lot of fun. They need to love each other so that when they can't stand one another they realize it is a temporary thing; the way these things are in families. That sounds pretty good to me.

  2. I can't answer this question. I've never lived in a community where I truly felt loved and accepted and supported. Heck, I can't even usually find someone to watch my kids when I need to go have my teeth cleaned! How sad is that?! LOL. I do have a small handful of loved ones who do love and accept and support me, and vice versa, but I don't think we've ever all become "community" together. I have a good friend who has a huge network of people who love and adore her, and come together on her behalf when she's in need and just to celebrate her milestones with her...I'm guessing that is what community is all about. I envy people who have found community; as it is, I am my own community and that has to be enough.

  3. It just occurred to me to add something. On a smaller scale, I think I found a certain amount of community in my domestic abuse support group. The reason that I think I found some semblance of community there is because our group leader got a different job and the new leader just doesn't "feel" right to me. I'm afraid I may lose this wonderful mini-community, which I relied on apparently more than I thought I did based on how much it bothers me that I may be losing it!
